How much pine straw do I use?
Our pine straw is sold in square and round bales. Square bales contain over 3 cubic feet of pine straw each and round bales have the 2.5 times the capacity of the square bale. Top Quality Pine Straw has highly compressed square bales that are 13x14x28 inches.
How long does pine straw last?
Pine straw breaks down slowly overtime and like other organic mulches it will need to be changed occasionally (about twice a year) for both depth and fresh color. When adding new pine straw you will not need as much as the first time applying unless you remove the old pine straw.
Can pine straw bales be stored outside?
Yes however the bales should be covered in order to preserve them.
Does pine straw help protect plants, shrubs & trees against the cold weather?
Yes by installing pine straw around the base of trees and other vegetation it is a very effective method in protecting root systems from the cold. If you live in a cold climate place pine straw at a depth of six inches.
What is pine straw?
Pine straw is the needle of the pine tree that drops from the tree to the forest floor. It is then raked and separated from sticks and cones which also fall from the tree, baled into easy to carry square or round bales for use as a pine straw mulch or ground cover.

Can I use pine straw in high wind areas?
YES: The pine needles in pinestraw interlock with each other holding together so heavy winds, even heavy rain won’t carry the pinestraw away. Many people use pine straw in their landscapes on steep slopes not only because pine straw is stable, but also protects from erosion.
How often does pine straw need to be applied?
Apply pinestraw once per year. If you’re using it for decorative purposes you can apply 2x per year to keep the pinestraw looking fresh.
How much coverage should I expect from a square vs round pine straw bale?
Our highly compressed square pinestraw bales cover 3 cubic feet of area 3-4” deep. Round pinestraw bales cover 2 ½ x that or approximately 7-8 cubic feet of area 3” – 4” deep.
Does pine straw attract termites?
